Cast of Kids On Jazz
"Reindeer
Presents KIDS ON JAZZ"
*****
for immediate release *****
The great and timeless Jazz Standards are front-and-center in
Reindeer Theatre Company's upcoming musical revue KIDS ON JAZZ
the first two weekends in August at the Warren Memorial Library
Auditorium, 479 Main Street in Westbrook.
KIDS ON JAZZ is designed to showcase young performers in a very
unique and challenging genre. Think "pop star" instead
of "actor," said RTC Director Louis Philippe who created
the show more than a decade ago.
The kids are put in a very different spotlight, Philippe explained. Rather
than memorizing scripts, blocking and characters, the singers
must rely totally on their charisma, improvisational skills,
and their ability to engage the audience in one-on-one banter
and sell a song.
"Unlike a typical play where actors blend into a scene
or ensemble, the task of this production is for each singer to
find their strengths and comfort level as solo Artists and to
develop an ensemble of individual stars....to create of cast
of divas, if you will."
KIDS ON JAZZ features nine young singers from the Greater Portland
area, performing in group and solo numbers, presenting their
own jazzy interpretations of popular standards, show tunes, movie
classics, Broadway songs and more.
The cast, collectively known as "The Swinging Sisters of
Reindeerland," includes: Josephine Cooper of Saco,
Nicole Gile of Gorham, Rachel Grindle of Portland, Arielle Harding
of Falmouth, Molly Olsen of Windham, Sarah Rinaldi of Scarborough,
Hanna Shibles of Westbrook, Emily Silver of Westbrook and Sophie
Sturdee of Gorham.
The show opens on August 1st and runs through August 10th. Friday
and Saturdays shows are at 7 PM, with Sunday Matinees at 2 PM.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for Seniors and Kids under
18.
